I m installing a maytag water heater.
Blue plugs new water heater.
I m hoping it s there just to provide a good seal at the top but i m concerned that water could get between the plastic fitting and the pipe.
My assumption is that they come out because they would create a pressure drop through the water heater however the design is so detailed being made up of sleeves orings flapper valves etc that it does not look like an ordinary cleanliness plug.
There is no information in the installation manual.

The blue thing in the cold water side of the heater is called a dip tube it is there to carry the cold water entering the heater to the bottom of the heater and not mix at the top of the heater.

We are not sure if they are plugs we cant see down the tubes.
The inlet and outlet have 3 4 threaded tubes with small blue plastic fittings at the top.
Should they or can they be removed be removed.
