I m installing a maytag water heater.

I m hoping it s there just to provide a good seal at the top but i m concerned that water could get between the plastic fitting and the pipe. My assumption is that they come out because they would create a pressure drop through the water heater however the design is so detailed being made up of sleeves orings flapper valves etc that it does not look like an ordinary cleanliness plug. There is no information in the installation manual. Ok to remove water heater heat trap plastic.
